Poggio dell'Esca farmhouse – historic stone building with cypress trees in Valtiberina Tuscany

Perched on a sunlit hilltop just 5 km from the medieval town of Sansepolcro, Poggio dell’Esca rises above the Valtiberina valley — where Tuscany, Umbria and Romagna quietly meet. Panoramic views sweep across golden fields, ancient cypress trees and the shimmering Lake Montedoglio. Here, the only soundtrack is birdsong, and time feels gloriously unhurried.

The farmhouse has been in our family for generations — bought by my grandfather, a veterinarian with a deep love for the Tuscan countryside, then lovingly restored by my parents and opened to guests in 2019. The philosophy: absolute privacy, silence and authentic Italian living.

Poggio dell’Esca sleeps up to 8 guests in 4 bedrooms, each with its own private en-suite bathroom (3 double rooms + 1 twin room). Inside: a spacious living room, fully equipped farmhouse kitchen, laundry and a sun-drenched terrace with sweeping valley views. Outside: exclusive use of a large swimming pool, Mediterranean gardens, outdoor lounge areas and a barbecue terrace.

A brief description of the Valtiberina and the outdoor activities that can be done there.

Water Sports: Lake Montedoglio (10 min) offers canoeing, kayaking, fishing and birdwatching. The Tiber river is perfect for fly fishing and gentle rafting.

Horseback Riding: Several local farms offer guided rides through the rolling Tuscan hills — a magical way to experience the landscape.

Thermal Baths: Bagno di Romagna (40 min) is a renowned spa town — a perfect treat after a day of exploration.

Nature Reserves: The Parco del Sasso di Simone and Riserva dell’Alpe della Luna offer stunning wilderness hiking minutes from the farmhouse.

Nearby: Sansepolcro

Sansepolcro is a small town in the province of Arezzo, Tuscany, on the border with Umbria and Marche. It was founded around an abbey dedicated to the Holy Sepulchre, from which it takes its name. It was a free commune and then a center of Renaissance culture, home to the painter Piero della Francesca. It was elevated to a city and a diocese by Pope Leo X in 1520. It is located on the banks of the Tiber river, at the crossroads of four regions. It has a rich artistic heritage, with churches, museums and monuments that preserve works by Piero della Francesca, Rosso Fiorentino, Perugino and others. It is also known for its traditional events, such as the Palio della Balestra and the Festa del Perdono.
